Quality of IIT students has slumped: Narayana Murthy
Narayana Murthy has revealed his displeasure at a summit in New York, while addressing a bunch of former IITians at a ‘Pan IIT' summit, he stated that the quality of students entering IITs has slumped over time. He said that the quality of engineers is deteriorating every passing year due to the coaching classes that prepare engineering aspirants.

The first ever AICTE CMAT will roll out in February
AICTE has announced its first ever online Common Management Admissions Test (CMAT). It has been designed to select students for AICTE approved management institutes. Like Prometric assists IIMs in CAT administration; it has invited tenders from interested tech companies who can oversee CMAT. It will be conducted from 20th to 28 February, 2012.

HC directed DU to fill up 50 vacant seats in Law School
HC has passed an order as per which 50 first-year seats of the Faculty of Law of the Delhi University won’t go in waste. Such seats were lying vacant from the date of registrations because of inadequate number of eligible students under the OBC quota were available to take admissions.

Foreign Varsities can come next year: Kapil Sibbal
At the inaugural session of Australia-India Education Council in Delhi, Kapil Sibal said that foreign varsities can set up their campuses from the next academic year. It was attended by 15 vice-chancellors from Australia, led by Senator Chris Evans and Premier of South Australia Mike Ran, who interacted with 14 vice-chancellors of India.

DU has conferred autonomy to Departments for PG exams
Delhi University has conferred autonomy to respective departments to conduct their own entrance and semester exams for post graduate courses. It has been put in action to make the examination process smoother and quicker. Dean of Examination branch, RC Sharma stated that, this move has been implemented in order to relieve the burden of the examination branch after the implementation of the semester system at the undergraduate level.

Stanford University introduced a Blended Learning Approach to India
Stanford University's Center for Professional Development has introduced a new blended learning approach to India for delivering project management education. Stanford Advanced Project Management in India launched in September and the first joint course roll-out will take place in December 2011.

Indian Universities fare badly in World Rankings: Times Higher Education
Recently, Times Higher Education has announced the "World University Rankings 2011-12" and as per this report, India's higher education institutions fared badly. Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay was the only Indian institute which appeared on this list of world’s top 400 universities and that too at the lowly 317th position.

No negative marking for MBBS exam
An expert committee has been composed to check out the modalities of the proposed single entrance test for admission to all MBBS courses across India. This committee has been set up by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and it has been also recommended that there should be objective-type questions and a percentile score to determine the merit of all applicants.

2.05 lakh candidates registered for CAT 2011
In 2011, around 2.05 lakh candidates have registered for the Common Admission Test for admission to the prestigious IIMs and other B-schools. Last year 2.4 lakh candidates had registered for the test while in 2009 the registration figure was 2.48 lakh.
